Threats of artificial intelligence on nursing care: content analysis

چکیده :

Background and Objective The integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into healthcare, particularly in nursing, presents numerous opportunities for enhancing patient care and improving operational efficiency. However, based on the experiences of nurses, there are also significant threats and challenges associated with the adoption of AI technologies in nursing care. This exploration highlights the key concerns raised by nurses regarding the potential negative impacts of AI on their profession and patient care. Methods A content analysis to explore the experience of pediatric nurses was conducted among 6 by purposive homogenous sampling and interviewed with an open-ended interview guide by ensuring data saturation. COREQ guideline were adopted for this qualitative study. Results Qualitative data were analyzed using conventional content analysis, and themes and sub-themes were derived. The major themes that emerged in the present study were Job Displacement and Role Redefinition, Loss of Human Touch in Patient Care, Data Privacy and Security Concerns, Algorithm Bias and Inequities, Overreliance on Technology, Training and Adaptation Challenges, Ethical Dilemmas. Conclusions While artificial intelligence holds promise for transforming nursing care, it also presents significant threats that must be acknowledged and addressed. Based on the experiences of nurses, concerns about job displacement, loss of human connection, data privacy, algorithm bias, overreliance on technology, training challenges, and ethical dilemmas highlight the complexities of integrating AI into nursing practice. To mitigate these threats, healthcare organizations must prioritize supportive training programs, foster an environment that values human-centered care, and ensure that ethical considerations guide the development and implementation of AI technologies in nursing. By doing so, the nursing profession can harness the benefits of AI while safeguarding its core values and commitment to quality patient care.
